Landscaping for Abington Homeowners
Abington shares a border with Whitman, and the two towns share a history — both grew on shoemaking, both were carved out of the same original Bridgewater land grant, and both have the housing stock to prove it. We are on Abington properties several days a week.
The town is bigger and more varied than Whitman: about ten square miles with genuinely different conditions across it. What works on a North Abington lot near the Weymouth line does not necessarily work on a wooded property near Ames Nowell.

Abington ground conditions, neighborhood by neighborhood
Ames Nowell State Park sits in the western part of town around Cleveland Pond, and the properties bordering that area are wooded, shaded, and generally acidic — pine and oak litter drives pH down year after year. Lawns out there are fine fescue lawns whether the homeowner intended that or not, and they want lime on a regular schedule.
Island Grove Park, with its pond and the Civil War memorial arch, sits closer to the center of town, and the neighborhoods around it are older with mature street trees and established plantings. That is where we do a lot of renovation work — pulling out foundation yews and junipers that were planted in the sixties and have been sheared into blocks for fifty years, and replacing them with something scaled to the house.
North Abington, up toward the Weymouth and Rockland lines, has more of a mix, including postwar subdivisions where the topsoil layer is thin over compacted fill. Those lawns show the classic symptom: green and fine in May, browned out by the second week of August. The fix is core aeration, compost topdressing, and getting roots deeper — not more water.
Beaver Brook and the wetland corridors running through town mean a real share of Abington properties fall within a wetlands buffer. If your project involves grading, a drain outlet, or a patio near the back of a wet lot, that is worth checking before anyone starts digging. We flag it during the estimate.
Practically speaking, Abington is close enough to our shop that we can hold a tight weekly mowing rotation here, get to a storm-damage call the same day, and run snow routes without stretching. Route 18 and Route 123 put us anywhere in town in ten minutes.
Abington's mix also means the same service can look different at either end of town. A spring cleanup on an open lot off Route 18 is a straightforward morning; the same job on a wooded property near Ames Nowell involves hand-clearing dense beds, needle drop that mats over winter, and roughly twice the material to haul. We quote from the property rather than from the town.

Four miles from the shop
Abington is one town over, which means tight weekly routing, same-week response in season, and snow routes that do not stretch. You are inside our core service ring.
We treat North Abington and Ames Nowell differently
A wooded lot near Cleveland Pond and a postwar subdivision near the Weymouth line are different growing environments. One wants fine fescue and lime; the other wants aeration and compost over compacted fill.
Renovation work on sixty-year-old plantings
The neighbourhoods around Island Grove are full of foundation yews and junipers sheared into blocks since the sixties. We tell you plainly which will come back from a hard cut and which need replacing.
Fully insured, owner on the job
Liability and workers' compensation coverage with certificates on request, 5.0 stars from 28 Google reviews, and Chris walking the estimate rather than a salesperson.

Read our Google reviews“Chris did an amazing job installing my new lawn with sod. From him being readily available to take a look at my job in the beginning, to providing me a prompt, competitive quote, to the pulling up of my old weed filled lawn, hand laying the new sod, and setting up of the sprinklers/timers to water the lawn, he has been a pleasure to work with. He also pulled out a large shrub and planted a smaller one, as well as re-mulched. He is professional, responsive to all questions, easy to work with, and a hard worker. I highly recommend him for any landscape project you may have.”

Landscaping in Abington: Questions
Specific to properties in Abington and the surrounding area.
Yes — North Abington, the center, and everything out toward the Ames Nowell side. We are four miles away in Whitman, so there is no part of town that is inconvenient for us.
Two things working together: heavy shade and acidic soil from decades of needle drop. Sun-blend grass will not hold there. A fine fescue blend, a higher mowing height, and lime based on a soil test is the combination that actually works on those lots.
Same-week is normal during the season and same-day is often possible for storm cleanup. Four miles from our Whitman shop puts Abington firmly inside our core area, and our weekly routes already run through town.
We check regulatory status before quoting. Routine mowing of existing lawn is generally fine; grading, drainage outlets and vegetation removal inside a buffer zone may need Conservation Commission review, and we would rather establish that at the estimate than mid-project.
