Landscaping for Rockland Homeowners
Rockland is a compact, densely built town, and that shapes the work. Lots are smaller than in the towns south of us, houses sit closer together, and there is less room to maneuver equipment. The upside is that a well-executed front yard here has an outsized effect — everything is visible from the street.
We run maintenance routes through Rockland weekly and do a substantial amount of bed and foundation planting work, which is where small properties get the most return.

Small lots, big impact
On a quarter-acre Rockland lot, the landscape is basically the front yard plus a strip of side yard and a back yard you actually use. That concentration changes the calculus. Instead of spreading a budget across an acre, it makes sense to do the visible areas properly: a clean spaded edge, a well-designed foundation planting scaled to the house, and turf that is genuinely thick rather than merely green.
The older neighborhoods off Union Street and around the town center have housing stock going back well over a century, with the mature trees and settled grading that come with it. Two things come up constantly on those properties: foundation grade that has settled toward the house over decades, and foundation plantings that were installed before anyone thought about mature size. Both are worth fixing, and both are straightforward.
Studley's Pond and French's Stream run through town, and there are wet pockets you would not expect given how developed Rockland is. On a small lot, a persistent wet corner takes up a meaningful share of your usable yard, which makes drainage work worth doing here even on a modest property.
The former naval air station land on the Weymouth line has brought newer development to the north end of town, and those properties have the opposite problem from the old neighborhoods: thin topsoil over compacted construction fill, and young plantings that need establishing rather than renovating. Aeration and compost topdressing over the first several seasons makes an enormous difference on those lots.
Winter is worth mentioning too. Rockland's tighter streets and shorter driveways mean snow has fewer places to go. Where we stack it matters — pile it wrong and you get an ice sheet across the driveway every time it thaws and refreezes. We walk that with clients before the season starts.
The redevelopment on the old naval air station land at the north end has brought newer construction to town, and those lawns behave differently from the older neighbourhoods. Thin loam over compacted fill performs for two springs and then struggles every August. Aeration with compost topdressing across the first few seasons is what separates those lawns from their neighbours by year four.

What Rockland Properties Need Most
Foundation planting renovations and bed work lead here, because that is where small-lot budgets do the most. Weekly mowing routes run through town, spring cleanups fill March and April, and snow contracts matter a lot on the tighter driveways where there is limited room to stack.

Why Rockland chooses us
What Rockland Homeowners Get From Working With Us
15+ years on South Shore properties, 5.0 stars from 28 Google reviews, fully insured, and only 6 miles away in Whitman.
Small-lot work is where we earn it
On a quarter-acre Rockland lot the whole landscape is visible from the street. A crisp spaded edge and a correctly scaled foundation planting change how the house reads for a modest number — far better value than the same spend on an acre.
Equipment sized for tight access
Narrow gates and short driveways are the norm here. We run walk-behind equipment where a machine will not fit and hand-haul material, and that shows up honestly in the estimate rather than as a surprise.
We plan winter stacking before the first storm
Short driveways mean snow has nowhere obvious to go. Piled wrong, it melts back across and refreezes every night. We walk that with you in the fall.
Six miles out, five stars from 28 reviews

Read our Google reviews“Love the work done by Giachetto Landscape! Cristiano did a spring cleanup for our yard and it looks fantastic, we are so happy with it. We could have never done it ourselves and are so glad that we used them! From beginning to end it was a great experience. Cristiano was very responsive and came by to give a free quote within days of my initial outreach. He was easy to work with and is such a hard worker, I highly recommend!”

Landscaping in Rockland: Questions
Specific to properties in Rockland and the surrounding area.
Often more worth it than on a big lot, because everything shows. On a small property the entire landscape is what people see from the street, so crisp edges, a properly scaled foundation planting, and thick turf change the whole look of the house for a modest investment.
Usually. We run walk-behind equipment for tight gates and can hand-haul material where a machine will not fit. Access does affect labor time and we will tell you during the estimate if it is a factor in the price.
Usually the opposite. On a small property everything shows from the street, so proportion and edge detail deliver more visible improvement per dollar than they would on a large lot.
Yes. We run walk-behind equipment through standard gates and hand-haul material where nothing else fits. Access affects labour time, and we account for it in the estimate up front.
