Landscaping Across the Plymouth County
Plymouth County is our home county — our shop is in Whitman, and we serve every one of its 27 municipalities. That is not a claim many contractors this size can make honestly, and it comes from keeping the routes tight rather than the territory wide.
The county runs from Hull's barrier beach down to Wareham's cranberry bogs and inland to Bridgewater, which covers about as much variation as southeastern Massachusetts has to offer.
Twenty-seven towns, three distinct growing environments
The coastal towns — Hull, Hingham, Cohasset, Scituate, Marshfield, Duxbury and the Plymouth shoreline — are governed by salt and wind. Broadleaf evergreens that thrive a few miles inland scorch here every February, and the reliable palette narrows to bayberry, rugosa rose, beach plum, inkberry, juniper and the grasses.
The inland towns closer to Whitman — Abington, Rockland, the Bridgewaters, Hanover, Norwell — sit on glacial till with enough clay to hold water. Soggy back yards into May, compaction as the underlying lawn problem, and hardscape that needs real drainage in the base.
The southern cranberry towns — Carver, Middleborough, Lakeville, Halifax, Plympton, Rochester, Wareham — sit on sandy outwash that drains instantly and holds nothing. The opposite problem, solved by building organic matter rather than moving water.
What is constant across all 27 is acidic soil. Below about pH 6.0 nutrients get chemically locked up, which is why so many fertilized lawns in this county still look starved. A soil test and lime is the first real recommendation on most properties, regardless of which corner you are in.
Plymouth County also has an enormous amount of protected water — bogs, kettle ponds, rivers and salt marsh — so wetlands buffer regulation touches a large share of properties. We check regulatory status during the estimate rather than after.

No, and that is the main thing to understand. Coastal towns need salt-tolerant planting and soil building on sand. Inland towns need compaction relief and drainage on clay-heavy till. The cranberry towns need lime and organic matter on pure outwash. The one constant is acidic soil, which nearly every property here needs corrected.
