Landscaping Across the Norfolk County
Norfolk County stretches from Quincy's waterfront across the southern Boston suburbs and out to the Rhode Island line at Bellingham. We serve all 28 of its municipalities.
It is the most economically and horticulturally varied county we cover — dense city neighbourhoods, some of the most established designed landscapes in the state, and genuinely rural towns at the western end.
One county, three very different landscapes
The inner suburbs — Quincy, Milton, Brookline, Dedham, Needham, Wellesley — have the most mature landscapes we work on. Established specimen plantings, exceptional tree canopy, and soil that is often better than the regional average because decades of leaf litter and gardening have built organic matter. The work here is largely preservation.
Tree canopy makes shade the dominant turf condition across that inner ring. Fine fescue and a high mowing height keep shaded lawns viable, and where the canopy has genuinely won, a woodland planting is a better outcome than another year of reseeding.
The Route 495 towns at the western end — Franklin, Bellingham, Medway, Norfolk, Wrentham — are commuter-belt growth. New-construction lawns on compacted subgrade dominate, and aeration with compost topdressing over three or four seasons is what separates a good lawn from a struggling one.
Ledge is a real constraint against the Blue Hills in Milton, Canton and Quincy — rock close to the surface that limits planting depth and complicates trenching. We probe before designing on those lots.
Road salt off Route 128, Route 93, Route 95 and Route 1 hits frontages across the county every winter. Salt-tolerant road-side planting plus a spring flush of the affected turf ends the annual replacement cycle.

Yes, all 28 towns, each with its own page. Bellingham at the far western end is the furthest town we serve, and we are honest that it routes best for full-season contracts and projects rather than a single small visit.
They are older and more established, so the highest-value work is usually preservation rather than installation — species-correct pruning on mature specimen plants, shade garden design under decades-old canopy, and detail-level maintenance. The soil is often genuinely good, which is unusual for the region.
Road salt, almost certainly. Plow spray carries chloride onto the frontage and burns roots and foliage on the exposed side. Flushing the strip in early spring, applying gypsum to displace sodium, and switching the road-facing planting to salt-tolerant species stops the annual replacement.
