Landscaping for Dover Homeowners

Dover is one of the least densely developed towns in eastern Massachusetts — large lots, horse property, conservation land, and the Charles River along the northern edge.

Properties here are big enough that the real question is usually how much landscape to maintain, not how to fill it.

Estate-scale property management

On acreage, the smartest decision is often to reduce maintained lawn rather than expand it. Converting outlying areas to meadow, naturalised native planting, or managed woodland edge cuts weekly maintenance sharply, costs less over time, and generally looks better than mowing to a property line. We help plan where the maintained edge should fall.

Old fieldstone walls run through property after property here, and they are worth preserving. We rebuild slumped sections dry-laid the way they were built, reset toppled stone, and clear the roots and vines pushing them apart without stripping the character out of them.

Nearly everything in Dover is on well water and septic. Well capacity governs when a new lawn can realistically be installed, and septic locations govern where we can grade, plant and drive equipment. We ask for both before designing.

The Charles River and the conservation land along it bring wetlands buffer regulation to a meaningful share of properties. Grading, drainage outlets and hardscape near those areas may require Conservation Commission review.

Deer pressure is heavy on the wooded lots. Planting design accounts for it up front — boxwood, spirea, ornamental grasses, ferns and inkberry rather than arborvitae, which on a Dover property is effectively a food source.

Long private driveways are common in Dover and they change the winter conversation entirely. A three-hundred-foot drive with a turnaround takes real time to clear and needs somewhere sensible to put the snow, which is why we walk and stake those properties in the fall before the first storm.

What Dover Properties Need Most

Full-season property management on estate-scale lots, fieldstone wall restoration, meadow and naturalised-area conversion to reduce mowing, and planting design built around deer pressure and septic locations.

  • Spring & Fall Cleanups

The service our neighbors talk about most. Leaves, sticks, matted beds, and winter debris gone — every nook, not just the open lawn.

  • Lawn Mowing & Weekly Maintenance

Weekly or bi-weekly cuts with sharp blades, crisp trim lines, and every hard surface blown clean before we leave.

  • Shrub Trimming & Pruning

Pruning timed to each plant, not to the calendar — so your hydrangeas still bloom and your hedges stay full to the ground.

Love the work done by Giachetto Landscape! Cristiano did a spring cleanup for our yard and it looks fantastic, we are so happy with it. We could have never done it ourselves and are so glad that we used them! From beginning to end it was a great experience. Cristiano was very responsive and came by to give a free quote within days of my initial outreach. He was easy to work with and is such a hard worker, I highly recommend!

No, and most owners with real acreage eventually decide not to. Maintained lawn near the house, then meadow, naturalised planting or managed woodland edge further out. It cuts weekly cost substantially and generally looks better than mowing to the boundary.
