Landscaping for Boston Homeowners
We are honest about Boston: we are a South Shore crew, and the parts of the city that work for us are the southern residential neighbourhoods reachable up Route 24 and Route 128 — Hyde Park, Roslindale, West Roxbury, Mattapan, and the residential stretches of Dorchester.
Those neighbourhoods are single- and multi-family housing on real lots, which is work we do every day. We do not pretend to service Back Bay or East Boston.

Landscaping in Boston's southern neighbourhoods
West Roxbury and Roslindale have the largest lots in the city and the most conventional landscapes — front lawns, foundation plantings, mature street trees, and real back yards. The work there is close to suburban maintenance, and the Arnold Arboretum on the Jamaica Plain line sets a standard people notice.
Hyde Park and Mattapan run to a mix of single-family and multi-family properties, often with the classic Boston problem: a small front yard, a driveway, and a back yard that three households share. Durability beats delicacy there. Traffic-tolerant turf, plantings that survive without babying, and hardscape where grass simply will not hold.
Dorchester's residential stretches are triple-decker country. Lots are narrow, front yards are shallow, and the entire visible landscape is a strip along the sidewalk. On that scale, a clean bed edge and a correctly scaled planting change the whole property for very little money.
City soil reflects a century and a half of development — fill, compaction, and construction debris are routine. Core aeration and compost do far more for a Boston lawn than fertilizer does. On the worst lots the honest recommendation is a smaller, genuinely healthy lawn with larger mulched beds rather than turf everywhere.
Access is the planning constraint on nearly every job. Street parking, narrow driveways, and gates that will not pass a machine all shape how the work runs. We schedule material deliveries into tight windows rather than leaving a pile on the street, and we bring equipment sized for the access.

Landscaping in Boston: Questions
Specific to properties in Boston and the surrounding area.
The southern residential neighbourhoods — West Roxbury, Roslindale, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Readville, and the residential parts of Dorchester. We are a South Shore crew and those are the areas we can reach and service properly. We will tell you straight if your address is outside that.
Two honest paths. Rebuild the soil with aeration, compost and a traffic-tolerant tall fescue blend, which helps but has limits under heavy daily use by several households. Or convert the worn area to a small paver patio and keep turf where it can survive. On a shared yard the second usually wins.
Yes, with planning. We schedule deliveries into tight windows so material is not sitting on the street, use walk-behind and hand equipment where nothing can stage, and keep the work area contained. Access affects labour time and we account for it in the estimate up front.
